Install the APK
The app is installed from an APK file by hand ("sideloading").
- Set up the server first. Install and start the Macro Grid server on your Windows PC (install guide). The app does nothing without it.
- Download the APK from the Download page on your phone (or download it on a computer and copy it over).
- Allow the install. Open the APK from your browser's downloads or your file manager. When Android asks, allow installing apps from that source (your browser or file manager). The exact wording of this setting depends on your Android version and phone maker.
- Install and open the app. Android may warn that the app comes from an unknown source; that is expected for a beta build.
- Pair with the server. Make sure the phone is on the same Wi-Fi as the PC. In the editor, open the Pairing window and scan the QR code with the app (allow the camera when asked), or type the server address and PIN. You only need to do this once; the app then keeps a token and reconnects by itself.
Later versions: the app tells you when a new version is available and installs it after you tap (see Requirements). If you have version 0.1.1, uninstall it once first; see the Download page.
More about pairing: Pair a device. For everyday use, see the phone app guide.
